She Is Strong- Rolling Ranch

As I sit here at the USTRC Finals in Oklahoma City I sit back and realize how blessed I am to be here another year and get to help put on another church service, make more connections and meet new people. Last year I met this spunky lady who seemed to have such a passion. She had a booth out in Barn 3, a little 10×10 and it was full of some of the cutest clothes. I was swooning needless to say. I got to talking with the owner and she told me a little about her story and that this was her very first show. Well fast forward a year and this same lady is back with a bigger booth and in the main shopping area with people constantly in her booth. Without further ado let me introduce ya’ll to Gretchen Hiley of Rollin’ Ranch Mobile Boutique!

Gretchen was an elementary teacher with a big dream. She finally decided to take a leap of faith and quit her job and go for it. Last October she loaded her trailer up with boxes of clothes and set out to start her journey. When she arrived she set up her little 10 x 10 shop with the help of her husband Casey, son Colt and prayed it worked. As it happened to be her little shop flourished as more and more as the week grew on. Rollin’ Ranch was beginning to make a name. Over the last year she has grown her business leaps and bounds. Not only doubling her booth size here at the USTRC Finals 1 year later she started a website and a Facebook group where women sit and wait for new arrivals. This beautiful women with her dreams becoming a reality will triple the size of her very first booth and head to Las Vegas, NV for the National Finals Rodeo in December.

Check out the “Links Below” to follow and shop! If you are going to Vegas be sure to check her booth out at the Stetson Country Christmas at the Sands!

“Strength grows in the moments when you think you can’t go on but you keep going anyways.” This quote was on my heart this week, no matter what trials or hardships are lying ahead of you today remember you are stronger. You can’t give up, you were made to keep going and I know you can! “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you” Phil 4:13 tells us that. I just wanted to remind y’all of that tonight!

Now to some fashion! This week’s collaboration with The Frosted Cowgirl Boutique was well ahh-mazing! That has been my word of the week it seems! The first piece I wore was this beautiful Silverado duster! Who doesn’t just love serape? I mean I am sure there are some but y’all I love it! Silverado actually makes some other really amazing pieces too, like a blazer, a cardigan and well… I linked all the pieces together for you right here:
Silverado – Buy on The Frosted Cowgirl Boutique

It can be styled a few different ways but here is how I styled it this week!

Then my next duster is just another jaw dropping piece! Along with being uber soft and floral. It is topped with gorgeous lace on the top and down through the sleeves. I kind of felt like a queen and didn’t want to take it off to be honest. This piece is offered in a size  S-L currently on The Frosted Girl website but I know they did just get some plus sizes in sizes 1X-3X! I am rocking a 1X for those wondering. But here is a little tid-bit for your shopping pleasures,  if you join the Frosted Cowgirl Hot and In Stock group on FaceBook you will get first looks and dibs on New Arrivals! Say what? Yes! I just linked it below for you. I got your back! Always! haha

She Is Strong- J. Forks

She Is Strong
When you sit down to write a piece on a woman who is strong, brave and a huge inspiration it takes time. I have worked on this piece for a while now just trying to perfect it but I then realized I just needed to let it flow and tell y’all from my perspective what and how truly amazing today’s featured lady is. I have wanted to start this year’s interview series called “She is strong” to highlight inspiring women we look up to and help tell their story. Each interview maybe a little different because no 2 people are alike and so neither should their story/ interview. The point of these pieces is to help encourage and inspire you the reader. I want each of you to know that no matter the struggles and the hard times if you stay true to who you are, go for your dreams and truly you can and will accomplish so much and more than you could ever imagine. So with that I want to introduce you to my first Strong Woman! Jenny of J. Forks Designs.

image

J. Forks Design

We have all seen, maybe even oooooed and awwwwwed over her pieces. Some of us may even own some, my list is ever growing! Each piece is handcrafted in her studio in Pipe Creek, Tx with so much heart and soul. Jenny has been designing for quite some time; and when I asked her about how she got started, she said she was looking for something she could do to support herself and family. Just being out of high school, she went to her roots and heritage. Something that she could remember her great grandmother doing, jewelry making. Like myself, Jenny is Cherokee Indian; but, she also has a dash of Comanche in her, too. She was born with the heart of a warrior and this woman has no quit in her. She has fire, passion and a family, and for this mother of 2 that is reason enough to push the limits of her dreams. If one door closed, she wouldn’t let it get her down. She would learn and grow from it, then she would find or make another door and keep on pursuing her dreams. I was actually so blessed to get to sit down and visit with Jenny a few months ago and when I drove away that night I felt empowered that I could do anything I set my mind too. I love when God puts people in your path to help inspire you and that night Jenny did just that for me.

Feather Necklace

~So let’s get a little personal~

I asked Jenny about one of her tattoos I had been noticing while we were chatting, it was a lone feather on her right arm. She said, “…you see this feather it’s not perfect it’s tattered and it’s torn but it’s still put together. It’s like life, no matter the bumps and the bruises we get, we are always still put together.” Honestly, I sat in there and told my wow because it is so true. No matter what we go through it doesn’t define us, it just makes us grow. One of my favorite stories Jenny told me from when she was in high school was about a family she helped without even thinking twice. This family had moved to town for the father to take an internship during the fall/winter season. This job was a non-paying one, but after the internship was over there was the promise of a paying job. Well being as there was no income coming in for this family and it being near Thanksgiving time, Jenny took it upon herself to help them out. Kind of like that saying “see a need, fill a need,” Jenny saw this family in need so she decided she needed to help them out. Jenny was a high school senior at the time, she actually skipped school to try to figure out how she could help them. She had found out that this family was staying in a tent in a nearby area. With Jenny being the go-getter she is, she was able to help the family into an apartment rent free for a month or so; and when her mom and grandma found out why she wasn’t in school and what she was doing, they helped her fill the fridge and get money for the family. One of the reasons I chose this story was to show you this amazing woman’s heart. Plus, it impacted me in a major way. Jenny did not do this for the recognition, she didn’t even tell anyone. She simply did it because it was the right thing to do and she knew that was someone she could help. How many times do we as society get caught up in the recognition of things, and not just doing things because someone needs help and it’s just the right thing to do? You know it always comes back around to us; God has our backs and He sees what we do. See, now, you have seen the heart behind the brand. That same amazing heart is the same heart that puts all she has into her designs and every single piece that leaves her studio.

This same heart continues to give back; and oh my, am I so excited to share this with you about Jenny and her J. Forks brand. Jenny started a nonprofit organization that mixed her passion for helping others with her passion for beading. Bead For Hope Foundation was created to help improve the mental, spiritual and emotional needs of kids suffering with the effects of debilitating diseases. With this Bead For Hope, Jenny and other qualified members go into hospitals and sit with children and help them bead pieces for friends, family and themselves. Jenny started this in the hopes of bringing joy into the rooms of these kids who sit and don’t have much to look forward to day in and day out. But little did she know the lasting impact these kids would make on her life and how they would touch her heart. Their spirit and determination to just survive spurred Jenny to keep pushing onwards and upwards toward her goals and dreams. I read a quote from Joel Osteen that fit perfectly I think here… “When you serve others, when you make somebody’s life better, when you lift up people, when you help heal those who are hurting not only are they being blessed but so are you.”

Honestly, I could go on and on about Jenny. You see, when you admire and look up to someone with so much passion for life and fire for what they do, it is just contagious. It helps spur you on toward your goals and pushes you to live life to the fullest. I truly hope y’all enjoy getting to know the lady behind this amazing brand. Jenny truly is a phenomenal woman. She has always remembered where she has come from and uses that day in and day out all while trying to help others along the way. Jenny believes that everyone of any background or financial status should be able to own a piece of real turquoise. With that being said, you can go on her website and find pieces from $19 and up. I also love scrolling through jaw dropping pages on the J. Forks website and seeing how Jenny’s Native American background comes through in her designs, as well as being very fashion forward and able to fit into any style or trend. You can see her pieces gracing the western world, but also on the streets of those amazing New York fashionistas. I know personally that Jenny still has some big, BIG dreams that I cannot wait see come to pass. You, my friends, are never too young or too old to pursue your dreams; you just have to be willing to take the leap of faith to try.  Always remember that no matter how tattered and torn you may feel, you are still here, still breathing and still put together. Live life to the fullest and as Jenny says, “Dare to Be Bold.” You can follow Jenny on her Social Media pages linked below, also be sure to check out the tons of fab new arrivals hitting her website soon! Like her amazing new hats!!!

Remember to live life to the fullest and live in Grace and oh so much Style! Thank you again Jenny so much for being apart of my She is Strong series and for sharing your stories and your life with me and my readers.

DSC09051
I truly loved this top from CMF it was so soft and a great fit! There is nothing like the details either and complete with a fun floral print and it’s pre-knotted so you always look like you have the perfect tuck, this top is perfection! You can dress it up or down just by wearing skinnys and heels or jeans and boots!
I added my great new Stetson Booties and one of my favorite J. Forks Designs necklaces

DSC08979
This dress is so fun! With its embroidered floral design it has all the Mexico feels! Minus the beach and endless tacos coming your way! You can dress it up with a fun pair of wedges or as I did by adding my Stetson boots! I also paired it with my Classy Trailer bar necklace because it has a stand out off the shoulder neckline already so it just needed a little subtly added to it!

DSC09097

Ok this is literally my favorite dress! It has a high low hem line, that is ruffled to make it super flowy! Then the cold should is also ruffled! Oh yes! The material is soft and flowy! This dress is so romantic feeling! Perfect for date night, a night out with the girls or wear to town just so you feel fabulous! History of Derby Fashion

It is Derby Day and it is one of my favorite races of the year  for a few reasons! My parents gave me such a love and respect for race horses. I almost get giddy as Derby Day approaches, I really love to watch them. My favorite race horse of all time is Triple Crown winner Secretariat hands down. He was one truly amazing horse but I am not really telling y’all anything new!

His story was such an inspiration to so many during that era! But let’s get back to the famous Race for the Roses!! Another reason I love the derby is obviously derby fashion! I always look forward to all the outfits, hat and to see how people evolve the looks from the previous year! Let’s talk hats because what is the derby without hats?
Check out this crazy hat!

3
(Derby Fan wearing her Talk Derby To Me Derby Hat)

Some people take it to the extremes but at least she looks like shes having fun right? That is what’s most important is to be you and have fun! I am drawn to the more classic looks and lines of hats and outfits. The Derby fashion goes way back I did a little digging and here is what I found! Colonel M. Lewis Clark Jr., (the founding father of the Kentucky Derby), envisioned the racing environment to be comfortable and luxurious, an event that would remind people of European horse racing. For a well-to-do in the late 19th and early 20th century woman, a day at Churchill Downs, especially on Derby Day was an opportunity to be seen in the latest fashions. A journalist from a 1901 Louisville Courier-Journal stated, “The seats in the grandstand were filled with gaily dressed women and men. The mass of green, pink, red, yellow, blue, all the colors of the rainbow, blending into one harmonious whole was as beautiful a sight as His Eminence in the lead.”

4(1926 Kentucky Derby)

In the 1920s, women at the Derby could be seen wearing a dress or perhaps a more modern suit, complete with a jacket. Some of the 1920s jackets were roomy and accommodating, others were more fitted. The hat and gloves were still very much in fashion at this time. Derby fashion in the 1930s and 1940s followed in the same fashio, with option of a dress or suit. In fact, the formal suit seemed to be more popular than the dress at that time.

5(1940’s Suit)

In the mid-to late 1960’s the Derby was still viewed as a most respectable event and women continued to dress as such. Only a change had occurred, now Millionaires Row had opened, society women increasingly wore louder hats and took pride and enjoyment in selecting one. This trend of bigger, more spectacular hats might have developed due to the fact that while society was loosening its grip on the hat and glove formality, the Kentucky Derby offered women a place to continue the old traditions. Patterns and prints were also brighter, and hemlines defiantly were raised, yielding a much different look than years before. In the 1970s and 1980s was a return to a longer skirt, while the same casual attitude of the 1960s was still in place. From the 1990s to present day, the dress at the Derby is slowing replacing the suit, especially with younger women. While gloves are out of fashion, a hat never is, and they tend to get wilder and more expensive every year!

Check out some of my favorite present day Derby looks…
(Click or tap picture for full view)

As you can see derby fashion has and fashion in general has really evolved over the last few decades. I hope you enjoyed this fun little lesson on Derby fashion and enjoy the races today!!
Remember to live life in as much grace and style as you can!

There is always something to be thankful for! Just like waking up each morning, family and great friends and tacos! Yes I said it and I went there but hey I’m a foodie! I’m seriously so grateful to have gotten to collaborate with Kelli and her amazing boutique, it been fun helping show off some really great pieces! One of my favorite things about blogging is helping show support for smaller businesses and businesses trying to get started. We all need someone in our corner encouraging us and rooting us on and I’m so thankful God blessed me with being in that position! I truly love fashion and all kinds of styles but my favorite would be the one that shows and spreads kindness! A simple smile or uplifting word can make someone’s day if you know them or not! Share the love and kindness and be thankful for those people in your life! Try to never take them for granted and always remind them how much they mean to you! If you ever need a little reminding of this, head on over and get this tee from Follow Your Arrow! So that way when you see it you will have that little reminder to count your blessings because they are so very precious!!
